Microneedling in Manchester
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that is used to treat the skin by stimulating the production of collagen. It is a minimally invasive procedure involving the use of tiny, sterilised needles to prick the skin. You may also hear it called collagen induction therapy. The miniature wounds that are created during the treatment cause the body to heal the skin by producing additional collagen and elastin. The skin’s healing process after this treatment not only improves skin elasticity but can also help to reduce the look of dark spots, scars, large pores and wrinkles.
How does microneedling work?
Microneedling encourages the skin to produce more collagen and elastin. In order to do this, it’s necessary to cause slight injury to the skin which responds by producing the new collagen tissue. The treatment can also be combined with radiofrequency and topical serums, but your therapist will be able to suggest the best course of action.
Is microneedling safe?
As a minimally invasive procedure that requires little or no downtime, microneedling is considered safe and effective and can be the ideal treatment for those wanting to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while plumping the skin. It is also particularly effective for those bothered by acne scarring. There are certain cases in which microneedling is not advised, such as active acne or other active skin conditions like psoriasis, but your therapist will be able to advise in more detail.
Why microneedling?
Microneedling is way more effective than using at-home rollers and the effects usually last between three to six months. Ideal results will be achieved with multiple treatments and a maintenance plan. Again, this is something we can discuss with you so that you achieve the best possible results. Microneedling offers quick results. It makes the skin appear more plump and radiant after the first treatment thanks to the inflammation and superficial swelling. After that, the skin quickly springs into action to heal itself and many people see significant results after just a few sessions.
The treatment also promotes improvement over time. In one study, people given four microneedling treatments one month apart, experienced a 400% improvement in collagen and elastin a massive six months after completing the course of treatment.
Benefits of microneedling
With the popularity that microneedling has gained over the past few years, so too has its list of benefits. Here are the most common benefits you can experience with microneedling treatments:
- Evens out the skin tone
- Improves skin elasticity
- Plumper skin
- Radiant skin
- Promotes hair growth in those with alopecia
Reduction in the appearance of:
- Scars (including acne scars)
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Enlarged pores
- Dark spots (hyperpigmentation)
Microneedling is significantly more affordable than laser therapy and may even work better for some people, especially those wanting to even out their skin tone. People with darker skin tones would also do better with microneedling treatments because laser therapies can affect them in different ways and research on the use of lasers on darker skin tones is still inadequate.
Are there any risks associated with a microneedling treatment?
As with all cosmetic treatments, microneedling does carry some risk. The most common being minor skin irritation following the session. This normally subsides after a few days. It’s important to be gentle on your skin after the treatment, and it is advised not to expose your skin to heat such as sunbeds, hot yoga and intense exercise.
In general, if you’re in good health, and have skin concerns bothering you that haven’t responded to treatments at home, microneedling could be ideal for you if you’ve been considering more involved cosmetic procedures.
